Washing Your 356
Most, if not all, 356 owners will cover the engine with a towel or large sheet to keep the engine as dry as possible during washing. Forgetting to remove the towel or sheet before start up WILL result in catastrophic damage to the engine. Broken fan belt, damaged pulley, damaged plug and ignition wires, even the carbs can be damaged.
As a reminder to remove the towel from the engine, I put a piece of tape over the ignition switch before I turn the water on.
It saved my A-- once.
