1965 C Sun Roof Coupe.
Slate Gray/Red. Euro heat. Blaupunkt. $35,000.
Restoration by Ed Pimm 1990. New floor pans, battery box, longitudinals,
jack spurs. Stripped, primed, painted. Nice interior. Seats recovered in
red leather. Carpet replaced-not German square weave but very presentable.
In or about 2000 owner left car at Ed’s after tail light repair and never
returned. Car sat outside for 2-3 years. After watching this beautiful car
deteriorate I initiated a search for the owner and bought it to save it
from destruction.
Since then I have done the following: bad weber carbs replaced with
remanufactured zeniths purchased from Harry Bieker in Oregon, big bore kit
and new cylinder head installed by Ed Pim, new clutch release bearing, new
brake lines, calipers rebuilt, distributor and fuel pump rebuilt by Dick
Weiss, like new euro heat valves installed, new dash cover from Autos Int.,
starter rebuilt and installed with new bushing and Tony Lonardos’ relay,
new Kumho tires. I have driven car less than 500 miles.
This is a rare original sunroof coupe in last year of 356 production.
Sunroof motor works but cables are binding- should be an easy repair. The
weather took it’s toll on the paint but it still looks pretty good. I
intended to use the car as a year around driver. Runs great. Tranny is
quiet and shifts smoothly. Handles well. I now need room and $ for antique
airplane project.
